My secondary students recently got their exam results back and I am happy to share another success story of another of my students – Naomi Tan. She did very well in her recent secondary math exams.
Naomi is one of Intellicat’s earliest students. She has stayed with us since Primary school. I remembered 4 years ago, when she was in Primary 5, she was a very playful and talkative girl. I can always hear her screams and laughter from outside the classroom. Everyone can tell she really enjoyed the classes here. In fact, she enjoyed too much to the extent that the tutors need to control her sometimes.
I started teaching Naomi Math when she was in Primary 6. Math was her weakest subject. She has always been struggling to pass Math since Primary 4.
Over the years, I watched her grow and I noticed a gradual change in her attitude. She started to become more serious in her studies. Though she is still playful and talkative, she knows when to be serious and when to have fun.
Whenever I teach in class, she listens attentively and asks many questions to clarify her doubts. Whenever I ask questions, she will be the first student to answer. Even if she answers wrongly, she is not embarrassed and will always try again the next time.
She knows when to have fun too. She still enjoys mixing around with her friends and cracks jokes often in class. She looks forward to tuition every week.
Naomi is becoming more and more independent. She sometimes listen to music as she practices her Math as it helps her to focus more. Whenever she has questions, she will actively ask me or discuss with her friends. Her Math results improved gradually.
Naomi got her recent end of year exams back. She scored 45/50 for paper 1, and 41/50 for paper 2. I could see the delight in her eyes. When I asked her to share her success secrets with the rest, she was very humble and said she didn’t put in much effort.
But I knew what made her successful. She is very consistent. She didn’t wait till one month before the next exams before she decided to study. She had been doing it slowly and steadily throughout the years. Most importantly, she has a serious attitude when it comes to studying.
As she moves on to secondary 3 next year, most of her friends are worried about taking Additional Math as it is much tougher. But I know Naomi is prepared to take on the challenge. I look forward to see her succeed again next year.
